ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management Systems)

The generic Quality Management System standard many sector-specific systems build on.

ISO 9001:2015 Audit-Readiness Rubric — Quality Management Systems

What this is: the generic Quality Management System standard, distinct from GMP-specific quality systems. Relevant to Regscribe's pharma/biotech customer as the foundational QMS many pharma/biotech companies build sector-specific quality systems (GMP, ISO 13485) on top of.

Sourcing note: the full ISO 9001:2015 standard text is copyrighted and sold by ISO — no verbatim clause text is used below. Structure/paraphrase via certification-body summaries, cross-checked; see regscribe-iso27001-pcidss-research memory. Important: don't confuse this with Regscribe's separate generic 8-area QMS cycle diagram (lib/qmsCycle.ts) — that diagram was checked against this standard and found to correspond more closely to the older, pre-2015 (ISO 9001:2008) structure, missing this standard's two headline 2015 additions (Clause 4 Context, Clause 6 risk-based Planning). This rubric is the real, current ISO 9001:2015 structure. No quantified failure-pattern data was researched for this standard — the failure-pattern column is omitted rather than fabricated.

Rubric legend

Each row: Requirement (plain language) → Citation → Evidence that demonstrates compliance

#RequirementCitationEvidence of compliance
1External/internal issues affecting QMS outcomes analyzed; interested parties and requirements identified; QMS scope defined with justified exclusions; QMS established as interconnected processes with documented inputs/outputs/effectiveness criteriaISO 9001:2015, Clause 4Context analysis documentation; QMS scope statement with exclusion rationale; process map
2Top management demonstrates active commitment (not delegated), integrates QMS into strategy, promotes risk-based thinking; customer focus with conformity-risk addressed; quality policy established/communicated; roles/responsibilities assignedISO 9001:2015, Clause 5Management commitment evidence; quality policy document; role/responsibility assignments
3Risks and opportunities identified with planned actions; measurable quality objectives set; QMS changes planned and controlledISO 9001:2015, Clause 6Risk/opportunity register; documented quality objectives; change management records
4Resources provided (people, infrastructure, environment, calibrated equipment, organizational knowledge); competence ensured; awareness maintained; internal/external communication processes; documented information controlledISO 9001:2015, Clause 7Resource allocation records; competence/training records; document control procedure
5Operational planning and control; product/service requirements determined and reviewed; design and development controlled where applicable; external providers controlled; production/service provision controlled; release only after verification; nonconforming outputs controlledISO 9001:2015, Clause 8Operational procedures; requirement review records; design records where applicable; supplier evaluation records; release/verification records; nonconformance log
6Customer satisfaction, process performance, and conformity monitored; internal audits at planned intervals; management review conductedISO 9001:2015, Clause 9Customer satisfaction data; internal audit programme and reports; management review minutes
7Improvement opportunities identified; nonconformities addressed with corrective action; continual improvement demonstratedISO 9001:2015, Clause 10Corrective action records; evidence of QMS changes resulting from improvement activity

Documents/evidence typically expected

No quality manual is mandated (a deliberate change from the 2008 version). Commonly expected records: calibration/verification records; competence evidence; operational planning records; contract/requirement review results; design and development records where applicable; supplier evaluation records; traceability records; product/service release evidence; nonconforming-output records; monitoring/measurement results; internal audit results; management review outputs; corrective action records.

Gaps/follow-ups

No quantified real-world audit-finding data was found for ISO 9001 this session — failure-pattern column deliberately omitted rather than fabricated. See regscribe-iso27001-pcidss-research memory for the assessment that led to correcting lib/qmsCycle.ts's prior "ISO 9001-style" mislabeling.
